1. Measure the dried fruit and sugar into a basin. Pour cold tea over it and stand for several hours (overnight if possible).
2. Add the egg, marmalade, and flour and mix thoroughly. Add milk if necessary to thin the mixture.
3. Pour mixture into 9x5x3-inch loaf tin or two small loaf tins.
4. Bake at 160°C (350°F) gas mark 4 for 90 minutes (60 minutes or less if divided into two tins).
