Sesame Flapjacks

Calories 205 per flapjack, Preparation time 10 minutes, Cooking time 45 minutes, Oven temperature 180°C, 350°F, gas 4

ingredients

100 g (4 oz) butter or margarine
50 g (2 oz) demerara sugar
4 tablespoons golden syrup
175 g (6 oz) rolled oats
50 g (2 oz) sesame seeds
100 g (4 oz) dates, chopped

method

1. Base-line and grease a 28 x 18 cm (11 x 7 in) Swiss roll tin.

2. Melt the butter or margarine and sugar in a large saucepan over a low heat, then stir in the remaining ingredients. The mixture should be fairly stiff.

3. Spread the mixture in the prepared tin and bake in a moderate oven for 40 minutes. Cut into 12 equal portions while still hot, and leave to cool in the tin.

Muesli flapjacks are delicious and easy. Omit sesame seeds and dates and substitute oats with muesli.
